As President-elect Joe Biden thanked the nation on Saturday night in Wilmington, Delaware, he was surrounded by the overwhelming love and support of his family. America’s next first family. However, who exactly are the Biden’s?
Joseph R. Biden was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on November 20th, 1942. Although Joe Biden is 77 years old, becoming the oldest President in U.S. history, he has been largely involved within the political world. Biden was the senator of Delaware from 1973 to 2009 before he became the 47th vice president under the Obama administration.
Jill Biden married the president-elect in 1977 and while has since then been by his side through his career, Jill has also worked independently to continue her passion in the teaching profession. During her time as second lady, she taught at the Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) and has said that she would like to continue teaching during her husband’s presidency.
Beau, Hunter, Naomi and Ashley are Joe Biden’s four children. Naomi passed away as in an infant at fault of a car accident alongside her mother, Neilia Hunter- Joe’s first wife. Beau and Hunter survived the crash with severe injuries. Joe and Jill then had Ashley in 1981, four years after they first married.
Naomi, Finnegan, Masiy, Natalie and Robert all form the Biden grandchildren. Ranging from 26 years of age to seven months old, the grandchildren have been very vocal in supporting their grandfather during the 2020 election. Saturday morning as the news broke out that Joe Biden was the projected 46th president, Naomi took to twitter to share a picture of the family in unity celebrating their victory.
Nevertheless, before the fireworks and confetti broke out, Joe Biden made sure to share his appreciation for his family’s presence throughout the election.
“I would not be here without the love and tireless support of Jill, Hunter, Ashley, all of our grandchildren and their spouses and all our family,” Biden said. “They are my heart.”
