With Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and others in remote learning, it can be shown that remote learning affects students in both positive and negative ways.
Being a student during remote learning is not easy. Elements such as distractions, poor time management skills\ and technological issues can really make it difficult for students to complete their work and excel in their classes.
According to the New York Times, remote learning puts lots of pressure on teachers and students by “aggravating educational inequalities,” due to the fact that schools don’t only provide an education, but also provide things such as a source of food, socializing and internet connection. With schools being in remote learning, these things are no longer provided in many cases.
Remote learning also can cause students to behave and feel differently, due to the lack of in-person interaction with their classmates and teachers. Staying at home for remote learning could lead to students experiencing feelings of isolation and depression.
While there are many negative elements to remote learning, there are some positive things about it. For example, remote learning allows students to learn self discipline. It allows more flexibility for other activities such as sports and jobs, and some students may feel that remote learning creates a less stressful environment.
