Freshmen Supreme Court Justice under fire again for assault allegations
October 3, 2019
Over a year ago controversy was sparked, well more like set heavily ablaze in the essence of a garbage fire, when sitting President Donald Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh for a seat on the Supreme court. To the disdain of many, later that year Kavanaugh would be confirmed to the esteemed position of Supreme Court justice. He is pro-life, ultra-conservative, and after his testimony in court, many think an alcoholic.
Behind Kavanaugh was a slew of controversy coming from every direction. Shortly after his nomination one of Kavanaugh’s classmates from high school accused him of sexually assaulting her while he was drunk at a high school party. Kavanaugh testified in court, everybody took a stance. Amongst the opinions there was: “Just didn’t make any sense.” said one about the accusations Christine Blasey Ford, Kavanaugh’s first accuser, pressed on Kavanaugh. On the contrary, many shouted: “Survivors deserve to be heard, Kavanaugh must be impeached.” So many were enraged that protestors marched on the supreme court.
Only once his name was freed from the headlines, eleven months later, another claim came out regarding Kavanaugh’s behavior as a teen. On Sept. 16, Deborah Remiriaz went public with her claims that while she was in college with Kavanaugh she saw him sexually assault another student, again during a drunken party. However, unlike the other allegation, too many, this one seemed less… believable. Or at least less reliable through some eyes. The woman said that she saw Kavanaugh sexually assault a fellow classmate of theirs at Yale Law. However, the women whom this allegedly happened to, has no memory of the incident. This account differs from the previous by Blasey Ford because of the fact that Blasey Ford testified in court, recalling the story with chilling detail.
The fact is that liberal audiences already did not like Kavanaugh from the get-go. After the most recent disputes, pushes for Kavanaugh’s impeachment are more prevalent than ever. However, left-winged opinions are not reflected by their own candidates in the Senate and House. Senior Democrats in the Senate say that it is “not realistic” to push for a Kavanaugh impeachment. This is not to say that all Politicians are giddy to keep Kavanaugh. Perhaps this comes at the wrong time, while many are controversially also pushing for a Trump impeachment.
“We’ve got to get beyond this ‘impeachment is the answer to every problem,” said Senator Durbin in an interview with Politico.
Unlike Trump, Kavanaugh has been appointed a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court. His decisions, which he seems to make only for himself, could affect millions of people’s lives. Rage stems from both the left and right side of the aisle regarding Kavanaugh. Ultimately, whether you choose to believe the things said about Kavanaugh or not, he is simply too controversial to serve as a productive judge on the Supreme court. Every decision he makes is going to come with the predisposed notion that his position hurts more people than it helps. “authentic, painful, polite, honest, vulnerable, riveting, credible,” said one journalist from Medium about the alleged attacks by Kavanaugh.
