Make way for senior tennis player Sydney Uhilr as she serves on tennis court with a racket in her hand. What makes this athlete stand out? As well as her being placed first on her team all four years at East, Uhlir is the first girl in East Meck’s history to go to regionals.
The tennis star had an interesting start to her love for the sport, and it all began with her playing WII Sports version of tennis. This inspired her to play in real life, and due to the pandemic this really kicked in while stuck at home.
Coming back from quarantine, at the start of her freshman year she was antisocial and uncomfortable. Since then, Uhlir has grown to be more outgoing and considers her coach, Cheri Rupert, one of her closest friends.
As a senior, Uhlir is taking duel enrollment classes at CPCC. To be on a sports team at East Meck students are required to take at least 3 classes, but took it to the next level and is taking six classes at CPCC, meaning she doesn’t take any classes at East.
Though she doesn’t partake in classes at East Meck, that doesn’t stop her from taking on her goal of going back to regionals.
Starting at WII Sports and rising to regionals is something of passion and it take the courage that Uhlir has not to get there.
