The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon is a theatrical play from East Meck’s theater productions. Written by Don Zolidis and directed by Bernadette Macleod, it was shown Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. and was open to everyone. The Brothers Grimm are brothers who collected fairy tales & folklore and published them as “Grimm” adaptations.
The theatrical play, however, is comedic and uses a sense of “dark humor” in its writing. The one-act play features stories such as Rapunzel, Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, Faithful Johannes and Cinderella.
The production consists of actors that come from a combination class of intermediate and proficient theater levels. Junior Oro Allen-Slattery is an intermediate theater student who played The Devil in the play. She has a few thoughts on being in a combined class.
“I think it works very well for us, we get to work with people with a bit more experience.” Allen-Slattery said.
Allen-Slattery has been in stage crew most of her life and this was her first time performing in front of an audience. The same is true for any of the performers in the play.
Quality overall is continually growing as the Zolidis update the script to fit the modern humor. Comedy is a big part of this show and it can bring a lot of people together with its famous characters and comedic writing. Some of the cast and crews favorite lines are
“Oh, how I love balls!” and “There’s no glass slipper?!” from Cinderella, “Put on the dress Beckham.” from the narrator, and much more.
Proudly, the actors and crew stand tall as they switch gears from rehearsal to class. Taking on class performances and bringing entertainment to the students and staff of East Meck alike.
