Cellphone tower may be built on campus

More growth may be ahead for the East Meck campus, but this in the form of a cellphone tower.

East Meck is one of 18 CMS schools that is under consideration to host a cellphone tower on its campus. If approved by the company and the school board, a small portion of the campus would be leased for the construction, operation and sustained use of the tower.

The tower would provide better service to students, staff and the surrounding community and will bring in revenue to the school; according to the Charlotte Observer.

Previously constructed towers have earned Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools $22,000 a year per site.
