Cross country, volleyball start conditioning Sept. 14

Basketball starts practices Dec. 7, other sports moved to second semester

Story by Michael Messele, Staff Writer

Sports will come back this school year as early as Sept. 14. Cross country and volleyball will be able to resume workouts, but practices will occur on Nov. 4. Later in the month on Nov. 23 swimming and diving will start practice. Basketball will continue on Dec. 7, and the rest of the sports will start their season after the new year including football.

When resuming back to workouts, all athletics must follow the N.C Department and Health and Human Services guidelines. While high school sports will come back, middle school sports will take a back seat for the first semester since their funding is dependent on high school athletics.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools also announced that when athletics resume for workouts, practices and competition they will allow the use of outside athletic fields. More information on the season and protocols will be provided soon from CMS.
