Sports Blog: Hornets-Heat to play in round one of NBA Playoffs

Story by Anthony Patterson, Staff Writer

The buzz is back! The Charlotte Hornets are back in the NBA playoffs after a one-season hiatus.

The Hornets finished with a regular season record of 48-34 which places them sixth in the Eastern Conference and matches them up with the third-seeded Miami Heat.

This season’s win totals are most since the NBA’s return to Charlotte during the 2004-2005 season. This is also the team’s first playoff appearance with the “Hornets” nickname since the return last season.

The Hornets were led this season by third year head coach Steve Clifford. Clifford has brought the Hornets to the playoff two of his three years coaching the team. The Hornets used last off-season to build this team to compete in the playoffs this season. With additions to this team such as Jeremy Lin, Frank Kaminsky and Nicolas Batum to add to the solid foundation of years past.

The Hornets are tasked with a championship-caliber Miami Heat team opposing them. This team contains three-time champion Dwayne Wade and rebounding and blocking machine Hassan Whiteside. However, the Heat are going to be without All-Star and champion big man Chris Bosh, who has been ruled out of the playoffs with a blood clot. This should surely be an interesting series as it tips off Sunday.
