Sports Blog: Jefferson eager to finish out career in Charlotte

After a less than steller and injury filled season the big man nicknamed “Big Al” is up for a new contract from the Hornets or from another suitor in free agency.

Al Jefferson arrived in Charlotte three seasons ago along with a high paying contract which took him away from the Utah Jazz. Since his first season in the 2013-14 season his numbers have gone down and so have the games he has played as the center has been plagued with injures.

The 31-year-old Jefferson is in the “back nine of his career” and with young players such as Cody Zeller and Frank Kaminsky performing in his absences, this brings up the question of whether or not the Hornets would be interested in retaining Jefferson.

In a conversation with Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer, Jefferson said, There’s nowhere that I’d rather be,” Jefferson said, per Bonnell. “The things that this franchise did over the last three years have been amazing, and I’ve been part of it. I know [there’s] a whole other business side to this, but I really want to be here. I’d like to end my career here.”
