Running back Khalil Woods rushes to new lengths

Senior Khalil Woods stunned many with with his 80 yard rushing touchdown during the game at Weddington on Sept. 8, with a rushing total of 190 yards. He is not just receiving attention from coaches, but from other players and students as well.

Head Coach Barry Shuford expressed his astonishment of Woods’ rushing statistics when asked about the recent game.

“We had a good [offense] last year,” Shuford said. “They rushed for a lot of yards, but Khalil is faster and I don’t think Khamal Howard would have broke that run.”

Junior Khamal Howard was the star running back last year whol left for Myers Park this year At the same point in the season last year, Howard had a rushing 206 yards, 27 attempts, and averaged 7.6 yards per attempts.

According to maxpreps.com, the national average for rushing yards is 84.6 yards per game. Woods currently runs 88.2 yards above the national average, with rushing average of 172.8 yards per game. He has had 691 rushing yards and 104 rushing attempts, with an average of 6.6 yards per attempts.

Woods realizes how impressive his rushing was last game, but believes that he can strive for higher achievements.

“[My touchdown] could have been better if we had a better game in general,” Woods said. “They’re looking for me to step up.”

Despite his increased publicity, Woods expressed his admiration for the other players.

“It’s not a one-man thing!” Woods said. “Without them, there is no Khalil Woods.”
