#Booktok books that will inspire you to read

Tiktok has been blowing up with new, in-demand books. With the hashtag “#Booktok”, creators recommend books and give opinions on new releases or the hottest novels. From “The First To Die at the End, to Icebreaker”, these books have had soaring reviews. Among the thousands of books that have been very popular these last few years, there have been a few prominent titles.

“The Inheritance Games” trilogy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes has been one of the most popular books trending this year. “The Inheritance Games” is a New York Times best seller and was also nominated in the Best Young Adult Mystery category of the Edgar Awards. There are four books in this series, with the first one being published in 2020 and “The Brothers Hawthorne” being released in August of this year. The series follows Avery Kylie Grambs, a high-school girl living in her car after losing her mom. She discovers that Tobias Hawthorne, a multi-billionaire, has left nearly everything to her in his will. The twist, however, is that she must live in the mansion for a year, and play Tobias’ game of riddles and cyphers. Filled with romance and mystery, this book argues against social classes and has themes of grief and regret. This book will leave you with questions until the very end.

“It Ends with us” is a duology, containing multiple points of view. Written by Colleen Hoover, “It Ends with Us” won the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Romance.  “It Ends with us” follows Lily Bloom, a girl from a violent childhood, as she struggles to survive in the modern world without replicating the violence she experienced. It switches between Lily’s current life and past and it explores the complicated relationship between love and violence. “It Ends with us” was released in 2016, and the sequel was released late last year. “It starts with us” telling the story through Atlas’s perspective, Lily’s past and current lover, and the events that follow after the end of the first book. These novels are both tearjerkers, and will leave you speechless and surprised every chapter. If you have not read this book, I personally recommend it if you are a fan of love triangles, romance, and drama. Although, If you struggle  with abuse, or sexual assault, I would proceed with caution.

“One of us is lying” was a YALSA Top Ten Best Fiction Book nominee, CBC Teen Choice Book Award nominee, and a Goodreads Best Young Adult Book of the Year nominee. This young adult bestseller is the first of 3 books released in 2016, 2020, and 2023 respectively. Five students are sent to detention, but one doesn’t make it out alive. This novel follows the stories of Bronwyn, Addy, Nate, and Cooper, the only witnesses of classmate Simon Kelleher’s death.  The four  have very different answers to the question on everyone’s mind: What happened? And was it murder?  This book is known to have you scratching your head and screaming at the same time.
