Members of East Meck’s The Eagle newspaper staff participated in North Carolina Scholastic
Media Association’s (NCSMA) High School Journalism Day hosted by the Charlotte Observer at
its new headquarters in the NASCAR Plaza.
More than 100 students from area schools attended and participated in sessions led by
reporters and editors from the Observer, including topics such as social media, editorial writing,
feature writing and review writing.
The staff also participated in a panel discussion, led by WBTV anchor Jamie Boll, about how to
cover the presidential election. Members of the panel included Observer editorial writer Eric
Frazier, Foundation for the Carolinas writer Glenn Berkens and Observer news reporter Tim
Funk.
The panelists left the high school reporters and editors eager to go out and do more journalistic
work.

Amazing job Ashleigh!!!!
Great article about an awesome opportunity for young journalists. I wish I had this type of exposure when I was your age.
