Eagles nominated for major state school scholarships

The East Meck Faculty has nominated five people for the Morehead-Cain, the Belk and the Park scholarship.

The Morehead-Cain scholarship is a scholarship for the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill that was originally called the Merit scholarship. The only way to get this scholarship is for the school to nominate seniors based on their applications. The three seniors nominated were Julia Pharr, Aiyana Willoughby and Kylie Morgan.

Last year senior Sara Holley was awarded the Morehead-Cain scholarship, becoming the first Eagle in more than 15 years to win it.

The next scholarship that seniors have been nominated for is the Park scholarship for North Carolina State University. Seniors acquire the Park scholarship by being nominated based their application. The two seniors nominated were Simon Gordon and Iman von Briesen.

The last scholarship that seniors were nominated for is the Belk scholarship, this scholarship is for Davidson college. The only senior nominated was Julia Pharr.

Pharr was nominated for the Morehead-Cain and the Belk scholarship. “I was so surprised that I was nominated for both because I worked so hard on my application,” Pharr said.

These seniors are now waiting to see if their applications will earn them the scholarships.
